In its waning days, the New York City Mayoral Administration of Michael Bloomberg quietly "sold" one acre of publicly-owned Willets Point property to Queens Development Group for the price of $1 (one dollar). Local civic organizations, good government groups and the press decried the deal, but could not stop it. Several years later, a final court decision enjoined the project that was the purpose for which the property had been sold. Under those conditions, the project contract allowed the City to reclaim the property – but only if it acted by a specific deadline. LoScalzo Media Design LLC produced this video explaining the property sale and the opportunity to un-do it. The video is hosted by Willets Point United member Irene Prestigiacomo, and was distributed to City decision-makers. Not long thereafter, the City exercised its contractual right to reclaim the property from Queens Development Group.
